Sabbath Worship Children Story (5th November 2016)
The story teller for today is the husband of Geraldine Farmer. He is a South African and his story is based on one of his childhood experience.
He asked the children if they had ever been lost. One of the boys answered that he had been lost in a supermarket once.
Brother Farmer recounted how his family went to visit another family who lived on a farm out in the desert. In the desert, there is a lot of sand. He and his elder sister; who was 10 years old, went walking in the dunes with some other children.
The larger children were talking among themselves, he been lonely, decided to go home. Now it seemed likely that since they walked up one dune, then he only had to re-trace the direction he came from, so he went up the dune. Up he went, down he went, oh, it seems it’s just a few more, so up and down and so it went on and he just couldn't see the house and the sun was going down. He just kept on walking. The older children decided to go home by now and they didn't see that Sam was no longer there with them.
They soon realised that he wasn’t with them and began searching for him, but they just couldn’t find him and it was getting dark so they went home without him. By now, his dad and uncle, who were both out, had arrived home and they decided to track him.
He asks the children if this boy of five was in trouble. They said he would be fearful and it getting dark would make it just worse. Brother Farmer also noted that there was other trouble too, very serious trouble at that. There was a lion in the area. It has been killing animals in the area. His dad knew about it and was very fearful for him.
They started off walking, then they began running, as they followed Sam’s tracks. They came to a top of a very large dune, from that height they had a large view of the area and where able to see Sam below them. They quickly went to him and took him home.
Brother Farmer noted that this memory reminds him of a verse in the Bible; Exodus 15:2. God saved Moses and Israel from the Egyptians by allowing Moses to part the Red Sea.
This text he noted always reminded him of his dad rescuing him from the desert and the lion. He observed that God will rescue us from trouble if we only turn to Him.
