Jimmy and his Scars

Sabbath Service Children’s Story
Date 26 January 2016

Told by, Sister Dessler, Pastor Astor Bruce's wife
Reported by Carol Lewis, Bilston SDA Communication Department

There was a young boy by the name of Jimmy.  Jimmy lived with his Mommy, they had a pond at the back of their house.

One hot summers day, Jimmy ran out of the house, throwing off his trousers he shouted  "I’m going swimming."  He ran passed Mommy towards the pond.  Jimmy’s Mommy suddenly thought “let me see what he is doing” so she went to the pond and she saw Jimmy swimming to the middle of the pond; Mommy gasped as she also spotted a large pair of eyes in the middle of the pond.  Mommy shouted loudly to Jimmy, “Jimmy, get out of the pond quickly”, the crocodile was heading straight for Jimmy. Jimmy heard his Mommy shouting and began to swim towards his Mommy.  She was anxiously still shouting to Jimmy, “Hurry Jimmy hurry!”  As fast as he could Jimmy reached near to his Mommy, but the crocodile had also reached Jimmy. Mommy quickly grabbed Jimmy’s arms and pulled him close, but the crocodile snapped his large jaws on poor Jimmy’s leg.  Mommy held on to Jimmy as the crocodile was pulling him on jimmy’s leg. As she struggled Mommy hadn’t noticed a farmer passing by in his truck, he heard shouting and drove to where the sounds where coming from. He saw the mother her child and the crocodile.  The farmer quickly took his gun; he ran to them and shot the crocodile.  Mommy had given a final pull and Jimmy's leg came free and Jimmy was in her arms.

Jimmy was taken to hospital; he stayed for a few weeks.  Whilst at hospital the local newspapers heard what happened and visited Jimmy to get his story.  Jimmy and Mommy told them everything. They asked to see the scars on his leg.  Jimmy said "I have scars on my arm too but not from the crocodile, they’re from my Mommy where she held on to me and pulled me away from the crocodile.” Jimmy showed the reporters the scars on his arm.

The story concluded by sister Deezler where she reminded everyone by saying; “There is another true story we know where someone had scars”.  "Jesus took scars for us, not a finger nail scratch but a nail through his hands and feet.  Sister Deezler told the children “God holds us tight just like Jimmy’s Mommy did to him”. She asked the children were they happy Jesus holds us tight when the Devil tries to pull us away.  The story was closed with a verse taken from John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. She asked the children to repeat after her, ”Thank you Jesus for taking the scars for me and thank you for my scars”.
