Getting Started

Using Zoom is very similar to using Skype. We prefer Zoom because it seems to handle weak internet connects better than Skype.

To use Zoom you will need:

  • a video camera, either built in to your device or a separate webcam (most modern computers, smartphones and tablets have this built in)
  • a microphone, either built in to your device or in the webcam (most modern computers, smartphones and tablets have this built in), or a phone
  • a broadband internet connection
  • the Zoom client installed on your machine. (Zoom has clients for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.)

We also encourage you to sign up for a free Zoom account. Let us know if you don’t have video capability and would like advice on getting a webcam, although it is almost impossible to get a webcam at durning the lockdown.

Protect Your Zoom Session

Although Zoom has now become an household name and is one of the fastest growing video conferencing software this year, it has had it's share of problems. Most of those issues overlooked by the company has been corrected and it is safe to say, the software is at it's best now. Even so, it has generated unwanted attention from hackers.

Hence the reason to protect your Zoom session from zoom bombers. This problem can be addressed by users taking steps to protect their video meetings, and Zoom has enabled by default many of the security features needed to do so.

Follow this link to see how to do this.  Please note that the latest version of Zoom will have some of these features enabled or disabled by default (when installed).
